On Looking at A Young Lady's Portrait 1895

Ye're lookin' awfu' sonsie, hen,

though whae ye are a'll never ken.

Nae hint, bit my, sae spic an' span.

A'm fair intrigued, the while I scan

Yer photie braw.

Coiffure nae doot in latest style.

Sich pose; per photigraphic guile.

Ye'd be, let's see noo, twenty-wan?

Hoo strange, tae think that in my han'

lies likeness o' ye.

Thae sleeves o' leg-o-mutton twa'

elastic-sided boots an' a'.

Was that a watch, yer blouse te fit?

A'll bet ye thocht that ye were 'it'

gaun oot that day.

Ye'd be an auldish body noo,

I wonder; were ye Sal or Sue?

Or Meg? Or Kate? - each name wad suit.

Wan thing clear, ye shairly took

a richt guid photie.
