 Gorgie Landmarks

Maist Gorgie things are easily kent

I thocht as 'lang the road I went.

Some hallowed by auld time itsel',

Wi' ithers – new- revered as well.

There's 'Tiv', that's ayeways recognised,

Tynecastle grund gets advertised:

White Park these days is lookin' nice,

D'ye peep in shop that sells the mice?

Yon glue works – gin ye've no' a map,

Jist watch fur seagulls on the tap:

'The cottages' are fine an' near

(We yince got chased wi' bobby here).

Ower tae gairdens, aren't they spruce?

Wi' dally, pink, an' tea-rose bush:

The ancient mansion, towerin' high,

and waterfa', and wagtail's cry.

Nu back the way on self-same side,

'The Flets' folk say, are Gorgie's pride;

Nu vintage pictur' hoose, ye see,

That wisnae there when I wis wee.

There's mony mair deserves a line

in this topography o' mine:

Inspired it a'? familiar face -

we met the fit 'o Wardlaw Place.
